Radio is a powerful medium which connects with every corner of the world without any electric wires. Marconi, the Italian scientist, invented it in 1902. A radio station change sound waves in to electric waves. It catches the waves and changes them in to the sound. It is a wireless set and medium of communication. It can even serve as a powerful and effective medium of education.
For the radio, there is a broadcasting station when technicians are employed. It has a transmitting machine whose function is to catch the sound. When somebody sings or talks before an instrument, the transmitting machine catches and converts into the electric sound wave. It can be heard at once from the places with the help of radio set. One can listen to the radio by means of electric connection or even by the help of electric batteries.
Radio is an effective medium of education. A single individual broadcasting from a radio station can give lessons on any desired subjects to thousands of student at the same time all over the country. The radio can be used as an instrument of education for all class of people. And people of all age for boys and girls at school and college. As well as for grown up men and women outside educational institutions.
Radio gives us pleasures. We can hear songs and music at the same time in all the houses where radio set is on. From the radio, the song of the dead singers can be heard. It is the means of getting news where the newspapers are not available. It is also a medium of advertisements of different commercial products are broad casted through the radio. It is because of the advertisement broadcasts through the radio, the desire and interest among the customers are aroused on any commercial objects.
Radio has some disadvantage also. The students can be affected by spending most of there times listening to the radio. Even the radio also broadcasts westernized culture and songs unnecessarily, which have caused negative impact in our culture. It has diverted the mind of new generation.
Concluding, the radio is a blessing of science. It should be used properly. One should not waste time unnecessarily in listening radio. In case of students, they should be advised to listen to the educational programs only.
